Today, I’d like to introduce you to BoardSuite’s VP of Interactive Products, Craig Poulton. Here at BoardSuite, Craig manages the Interactive division to ensure its steady growth. Craig also leads the way in the integration of new online products in conjunction with the BoardSuite board portal (new, beyond amazing, outta-this-world version coming soon). So what else can we learn about this modern-day “Superman”?
How It All Began
Much has changed in the web development industry since Craig cut his teeth on separating 8mm strips in film school. A native Montrealer, Craig moved to Toronto just over 10 years ago, where he worked in the web development industry as a Director of e-business development for a startup company. Though the startup went under, Craig was not to be stopped. From there on, Craig developed his own freelance web development and consulting business, which soon transformed into the full-fledged firm, InWeb Media Inc. Just a year ago, InWeb Media was acquired by BoardSuite, which leads us to where we are today.
What’s His Sign?
Onto the fun facts about Craig… In his heyday and well before the era of Youtube, Craig was a breakdancer. Really? Yes, really, smooth moves from the Poulton were being seen by the masses (the word “masses” is being used very subjectively here). This true Pisces also loves his kind: fish (eating them and admiring them, presumably).  And his hero? Superman, of course. Very Seinfeldian indeed. Less Seinfeldian is Craig’s favorite past-time – keeping up to date with economics, specifically world affairs and politics.
Canadian All the Way!
You’ll rarely see Craig in the office without his Montreal Canadiens mug. When I probed Craig about his devotion to this beloved NHL team, he spoke of some very fond memories about how it all began. Craig’s father used to work for the Montreal Canadiens, so the wee Craig was allowed to explore the back offices. Amongst his adventures was the privilege of skating with hockey legend Jean Béliveau . On one special occasion, Craig’s dad brought home an authentic jersey worn by Réjean Houle. What did the young Craig do with this historical piece of memorabilia? He wore it in the slush and snow to play ice hockey. Kids, eh? And did I mention one of his favorite movies is The Notebook? Go Canada!
Words of Wisdom from the Poulster
Fun facts aside, we wanted to leave you with some parting words from this expert in web development. It’s important to remember that while web development can be very technical, Craig’s education in film school gives him that perfect balance. When I asked Craig what advice he’d share with up and coming web developers, he said, “Innovate functionality and simplify design.”
If you have any questions for Craig about the Interactive division, please don’t hesitate to reach out. And for questions about the BoardSuite board portal or anything else, feel free to connect via LinkedIn. Until next time, folks.
